Quizlet: A Free Resource for Flashcards & Learning ToolsYears ago I first started using Quizlet with my students when my classroom had 1:1 iPad's. However, this great app is not just available on a phone or tablet. It is available FREE on the web as well. Over the years it has expanded it's offering to more than just Flashcards. Quizlet also provides a variety of learning activities to help students master the content they are studying. Modes include: Learning, Flashcards, Test, Spelling, Writing, Matching, and even a game called Gravity.
Teachers can create their own flashcards unique to their particular unit of study, or use one of the other thousands of already created flashcards sets in the library. There are even flashcard sets with diagrams, languages, formulas, etc. It's amazing. If you choose to assign your students a set of flashcards, just create a class, and share the link of your set with your students. It's Free! It's easy to use! AND It's a great way to help your students learn a huge variety of subject matter. Here is a video link to a short overview of How to Use Quizlet by Cult Pedagogy Here is the link to the website: Quizlet Many of you have expressed an interest in taking your students on Virtual Field Trips. There really is not just one site that has links to all the virtual tours available. There are “virtually” thousands of them. One way that you can find a virtual tour of a specific place is to just actually do a Google Search by adding the words “virtual tour” after the specific place you want to visit. However, here is a list of a few links to some Virtual Tour Sites that may meet your needs or get you started. Enjoy! Enjoy! Here are two valuable resources that teachers shared during our late start Wednesday Technology Transforming Teaching (TTT Wednesdays). Both are very applicable to all grade levels. Hope you can utilize these resources in your instructional practice!
Smithsonian Tween Tribune Each weekday, the site scours the internet for age-appropriate news stories that will interest students in Grades 1-12. Teachers can choose what grade level/reading level the articles are written. Teachers can sign up for a free account and invite students to join. After the read an article at their reading level, they can take a quiz about the article. Reading levels can be personalized also according to their Reading Lexile Level. Students in the same class, but who have different reading levels, can still read the CONTENT of the article and participate in discussions and/or answer comprehension questions. Very Cool! Could be great for Current Events reporting OR Nonfiction Reading Homework. PBIS World PBIS World is a website containing links to hundreds of interventions, supports, resources, and data collection tools, all of which are organized according to a type of behavior. The site starts with behavior identification and then offers suggestions for interventions and data collection tools. For those of us (everyone), that at times have difficult students whose behaviors may be disrupting to the class or prevents that student from making learning progress, this site offers some great ideas for interventions and classroom management. Excellent Resource to have bookmarked! Google Chrome extensions are programs that can be installed into Chrome in order to change the browser's functionality. This includes adding new features to Chrome or modifying the existing behavior of the program itself to make it more convenient for the user. The extension that I want to share with you today is called Grammarly. Grammarly is an automated proofreader. It checks for more than. 400 types of spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, enhances vocabulary usage, and suggests citations. This is extremely useful when doing any kind of writing on a variety of documents, email, reports, etc. The really great thing about Grammarly is that it is easy to add to your Google Chrome Browser and it’s Free! In order to demonstrate how to install Grammarly, please watch the screencast below where I show you how easy it is to install an extension into Google Chrome. Sometimes it is very helpful to be able to view two web pages at the same time. Fortunately, this is really easy to do. This feature could help with: 1.Composing an email to a parent while looking at the student's Plus Portal Gradebook 2.Doing research and comparing two websites 3.Copy and Pasting from one document to another. 4.Grading an online assignment and having the answer key document open without having to print it or go back and forth from one document to another. HERE"S HOW: Press and hold the Windows Key and then the Left or Right Arrow Keys when you have two or more windows open and the same time. This will put one of the windows on the left or right side.depending on the arrow key you choose. The other window will then appear on the opposite side. I To EXIT SPLIT SCREEN:
Simple click on the Maximize square in the upper right hand corner of the window and will return to full screen as normal. TRY IT....YOU MIGHT LIKE IT! When replying to an email that is a notification or reminder about a meeting, due date, special event, etc., it is not necessary to REPLY ALL to let the sender know that you have received and read their communication. In these types of emails, if you choose to reply in this manner, the proper etiquette is to only click on REPLY so that only the sender receives your response. Many times REPLY ALL is chosen which then sends your "Thank You" or "Ok, I Got It" response to everyone the original email was sent--which really isn't necessary.
Khan Academy is one of my favorite educational sites for both students, and parents. This site offers practice exercises and instructional videos, for grades Kindergarten - Calculus. Students can study at their own pace, revisit a topic they are struggling with in their regular classroom, or challenge themselves with more advanced topics. Khan Academy tackles math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. The videos are short and very well done.
For Parents and Teachers, this site is a great resource for helping your students reinforce the learning that is happening in the classroom as well as provide reteaching opportunities for challenging topics. Signing up is FREE! Here is the link: Khan Academy Have you ever needed to a powerpoint presentation for a lesson, but just didn't have the time to create your own? Well, you can use the features in the ADVANCED GOOGLE SEARCH area to find PowerPoint presentations that are already created! Here's how:
